About

The world in front of us will be a mix of reality and virtual and sometimes it will be impossible to tell them apart.

But what would be the use of such constellations of mini-satellites, basically? For Elon Musk, the Starlink system will allow “customers to watch high definition movies, play video games and do whatever they want”. Quite simply… For the giants of the Web in general, the stake obviously goes beyond the noble goal of fighting against illiteracy and the digital divide. Because connecting 8 or 9 billion human beings means the possibility of also reaching the same number of potential users, able to consume their services tirelessly.

It should also be borne in mind that in 2050, we should experience the 8th generation of mobile telephony standards. We hope to soon be able to use 5G (and 6G by 2030) to help us in many uses – downloading movies in seconds, browsing or playing online without latency, boosting our transport, our industry and telemedicine, developing real “smart cities” and constellations of connected objects. But what uses will arise in 2050, when 8G will make connections almost instantaneous?
